I sold BloggingTips

The other day I sold BloggingTips.com, one of my main sites and one which I have founded close to 3 years ago. I listed the site for just before Christmas though the auction only ended at the start of this week.

I was happy with the sale. Not only did I get a decent price for it, it was also bought by Zac Johnson, a well known affiliate marketer who I have spoke with a few times over the last few years via email. I was really glad that someone like him bought it as you never know how smoothly a sale is going to go through when you don’t know the person. There are a lot of scammers and timewasters out there so it was good knowing I wouldn’t have to worry about that.

I’ve already started developing my new site, which will focus on modifying WordPress. I’ve just threw up a basic design and logo just now as I don’t want to invest too much into the design until the site takes shape. I’ve written one article so far but I plan on writing a dozen or so good articles before launching and will probably do a few guest posts on larger blogs to push the launch (including BloggingTips itself).

I’ll also be buying a new pc as I’ve had the same laptop for close to 3 years. Been looking at the Apple iMac 27″ all in one but I’ve read a lot of reports with problems on it, which is a shame as I really like the look of it. Though due to these problems, my heads turning towards getting a good desktop pc and either a really good 27″ or 30″ monitor, or alternatively, two 24″ monitors.

With regards to BloggingTips, I think it was time to move on. It will allow me to work on new things and I can use some of the cash from the sale to invest in some new websites. I have looked a lot into getting involved more with PPC marketing but I still think my future online lies in writing as it feels less like work.

Best of luck to Zac with BloggingTips – I’m sure he will do really well with it :)

  1. Congratulations, and great news :)

Our iMacs have been great, love them. Would never go back to PC ;)

  2. Thanks Chris.

Yes I’m still torn. I love the 27″ iMac. The screen has the same resolution as 30″ monitors so it will look amazing.

However, at the moment all 27″ imacs are taking over 3 weeks to ship. Apparently this is to address a flickering problem. I’ve also been reading many people complaining about the imac having problems showing video, more specifically, sound and video being out of sync (see the discussions on apple about it). Not sure if this is a software or a hardware problem as no major website has mentioned it, though many people are complaining about little things like that.

So I’m not sure whether to wait a month to see if these issues are addressed or just look at alternatives. The sony all in one looks ok but is very expensive for the spec you get (though it does have blu ray and a tv tuner etc).

What kind of imac do you have?

  3. I have a 24″ and my wife has the 21″. I went for smaller main screens and use dual monitors instead. It all just fits on our desk with the printer in between :)

Those issues must be just with the 27 as not experienced anything like those problems with ours.

Can’t imagine having a monitor as big as a TV screen ;)

  4. I used to used a desktop with a 19″ monitor but for the last 3 years I’ve used a 15.4″ laptop screen, so I’m going to notice the extra space whatever I get.

My desk could fit a monitor of 24″ to 30″ easily, though I don’t think it would work well with 2 screens if I’m honest (just with the size of it and where I sit). I have another desk close which I aim to put my current 15.4″ on. That has Windows Vista on it so if I do get an imac I’ll have direct access to both operating systems.

The issues just seem to be with the 27″ as a default 21.5″ imac says shipping within 24 hours whilst the default 27″ says 3 weeks regardless of changes or not. So clearly they are trying to resolve some issues.

I would consider getting the older 24″ model if the price was ok, but prices haven’t really dropped. You’re talking about only a few extra pounds for a much larger screen, a much higher resolution and a better spec.

I’ve looked at the windows and large monitor combination. 24″ monitors have a resolution of 1920×1200. The next monitors with a higher resolution are 30″ monitors which have a native resolution of 2560×1600 pixels. 25″ up to 28″ monitors still have 1920×1200 resolution which means they are essentially the same as the 24″ except everything is bigger. The only exception seems to be the Apple iMac 27″ all in one.

I don’t really need a system for gaming as I have a PS3. Though it would be handy to be able to connect that to the screen. It’s mostly just for working and watching videos, playing music etc.

  5. Do you have an Apple store nearby? I had a good old play before I bought mine :)

  6. That’s a good idea. There’s one in Glasgow – about 40 mins in the train from me. Could be worth doing that before I take the plunge.

I’d probably just buy the 27″ imac right there if I liked it, but I want the i7 processor rather than the i5 and want 8gb of ram rather than 4gb. I’ve built several desktop pcs but I don’t fancy taking the screen off of one of those things and upgrading that myself. Goodbye warranty!

  7. Nice sale Kevin!
    What’s your next project?

    • Once I get the site transferred I will start working on my new WordPress orientated blog. I had a few ideas for some other projects but I want to put everything into that first and see how it develops.

  8. I read it better late than never! I was under the impression that both of you are together on BT LOL! All the best with your future projects.
