That’s a good idea. There’s one in Glasgow – about 40 mins in the train from me. Could be worth doing that before I take the plunge.

I’d probably just buy the 27″ imac right there if I liked it, but I want the i7 processor rather than the i5 and want 8gb of ram rather than 4gb. I’ve built several desktop pcs but I don’t fancy taking the screen off of one of those things and upgrading that myself. Goodbye warranty!

I used to used a desktop with a 19″ monitor but for the last 3 years I’ve used a 15.4″ laptop screen, so I’m going to notice the extra space whatever I get.

My desk could fit a monitor of 24″ to 30″ easily, though I don’t think it would work well with 2 screens if I’m honest (just with the size of it and where I sit). I have another desk close which I aim to put my current 15.4″ on. That has Windows Vista on it so if I do get an imac I’ll have direct access to both operating systems.

The issues just seem to be with the 27″ as a default 21.5″ imac says shipping within 24 hours whilst the default 27″ says 3 weeks regardless of changes or not. So clearly they are trying to resolve some issues.

I would consider getting the older 24″ model if the price was ok, but prices haven’t really dropped. You’re talking about only a few extra pounds for a much larger screen, a much higher resolution and a better spec.

I’ve looked at the windows and large monitor combination. 24″ monitors have a resolution of 1920×1200. The next monitors with a higher resolution are 30″ monitors which have a native resolution of 2560×1600 pixels. 25″ up to 28″ monitors still have 1920×1200 resolution which means they are essentially the same as the 24″ except everything is bigger. The only exception seems to be the Apple iMac 27″ all in one.

I don’t really need a system for gaming as I have a PS3. Though it would be handy to be able to connect that to the screen. It’s mostly just for working and watching videos, playing music etc.

I have a 24″ and my wife has the 21″. I went for smaller main screens and use dual monitors instead. It all just fits on our desk with the printer in between

Those issues must be just with the 27 as not experienced anything like those problems with ours.

Can’t imagine having a monitor as big as a TV screen
