Not sure why my comments aren’t showing up. But basically this service is a total scam! They have no customer service, the number you are given to call for help is an answering service. Ridiculous. Spend your money on something useful.

I’m really sorry about the confusion that arose from our correspondence yesterday. I thought you just wanted to disable automatic billing beyond your initial $374 payment and not completely discontinue your service. In hindsight, I see how my response to your initial inquiry was confusing and could have been misunderstood, but that was not my intent!

We stand behind our product 100%, so if it does not work for you or meet your needs, we don’t want your money!

Warning! CodeGuard are crooks. I signed up for their 14 day free trial to try it out and canceled after a week because I couldn’t get it to work. They said I will still be charged after the 14 days for a full year $374 since they claim cancellation only applies after one year. What total bullshit is that? Avoid this company!

In reply to Jean-Francois Mayer. I am surprised that the hosting company kept backups that long. I always thought they only kept backups for less than a week. Services such as VaultPress and CodeGuard are different. You made the right decision in using an external backing up service. :)

True, in many cases, the hosting service could restore a website… but not always, and sometimes at a cost, plus delays in case they are not very responsive. I once lost a month of published material following a major outage at a popular hosting service. They had kept no backup more recent than one month old… It took me a few days of work to restore everything properly.
I subscribe both to VaultPress (for one WP website) and CodeGuard (for several non-WP websites). Both tools are really impressive, user-friendly, and worth the peace of mind they give to me. The one-click restore option has been in both cases a key argument for choosing those solutions. Fortunately, I have not yet found myself in a situation in which I would need Codeguard one-click restore, but I had to use FileVault last week after a major issue with my WP website, late in the night: in a matter of minutes, my website was up and functional again. I am really glad to pay for such a tool!

@Alen – while many hosting providers perform some type of DR (disaster recovery) server backup, their terms of service actually state that they do not guarantee the accessibility or reliability of the backup. Unfortunately, when many customers find this out, it is too late. And hidden fees may accompany “assistance” provided by some hosting providers, in addition to it taking several days for the problems to be remediated.

With CodeGuard, it can take seconds and you can do it yourself.

In reply to Alen. You cannot rely on backups from a hosting company as they store backups on the same server as your website. Therefore, if their was a problem with their servers, you could lose your website and the backup. That is why you need an external backup solution too.
