Bags come and go. This is particularly true for backpacks since they are put through so much stress. They are manhandled through airports, bus stations, hostels, hotels, and more.
So it may surprise you that I have been using the same backpack for the majority of my trips over the last nine years. I purchased this Karrimor backpack for around £160 in 2006 and apart from being a little dirty, it is in fantastic condition.
