Jetpack Now Features Google+ Integration

Table of Contents

The Jetpack by WordPress.com was updated again today. This is not something I normally pay much attention to as the plugin gets three or four updates every month.

Today’s update added Facebook embed support and a new VideoPress support; however what grabbed my attention was the introduction of Google+ integration. This is something that the plugin has needed for a long time.

Under the sharing section of Jetpack, you will now see an option to connect your Google+ account.

Connect Your Google+ Account

You then need to authorise WordPress to connect to your Google account.

WordPress App Requires Authorisation

You will then get confirmation that your account has been connected.

Connected to Google+

Connecting your account adds your profile underneath your posts. This should help you get a lot more followers on Google+.

Google+ in Sharing Section

Users can now login using Google+ and leave a comment on your website.

Google+ Comment Integration

The update also allows you to add embedded content from Google into your content such as calendars, docs and maps.

Google+ has grown in popularity over the last year and it has become more important for website owners from an SEO point view too. Therefore, I am sure this latest update will be welcomed by WordPress users.

If you use Jetpack, I recommend updating and connecting your Google+ profile to your website. You can read more about the news story below.

Thanks,
Kevin

  1. Well it was an assumption, but a good one in my opinion. If you start displaying a button that asks people to follow you directly under your article, you are bound to get more followers.

Jetpack does slow down a website. I will probably remove it later once I find a good alternative solution.

  2. Hi Kevin

Thanks for the info, didn’t know that. Mostly because I stopped using JetPack (my SEO specialist said that it just takes up loading time and that I can pretty much see all the jetpack data in my analytics account; so I have stopped using it, and don’t really miss it).

When you write “This should help you get a lot more followers on Google+.” then this is something that you are currently assuming and still evaluating or something you could actually notice already on your end?

    Best regards from Greece,

  3. That’s strange. Perhaps there is a bug. Have you tried it on a test website? Maybe it clashes with another plugin you are using.

  4. Doesn’t work in my install. I can click sign in forever, tested on different browsers.
But it’s a great addon and can’t wait to see this feature in Publicize.
