A few weeks ago Flippa announced their new classifieds section. It’s a simple directory that has sections for many different web development related topics such as design, link exchanges and scripts.
A listing only costs $5. As you can imagine, this has led many to suggest that they are trying to target the Fiverr crowd. Fiverr undoubtedly has a better set up, though Flippa has the potential to be better due to its targeted user base of website owners. Links have nofollow tags attached to them too, which should hopefully avoid the classifieds becoming nothing more than a link farm.

I like the fact that your existing Flippa profile is used in the classifieds section. This gives a bit of legitimacy to listings and those who have a good rating on Flippa could capitalise on this. What is unclear is how much traffic the classifieds section is generating. I would love to know how much traffic the average listing gets.
There are not too many listings just now, though the classifieds are linked in the main menu so I believe we will see more listings over time. i recommend checking it out.

Hi Ophelie,
Wow. 25k views is amazing. I’m going to buy a few ads. That is a great return for $5.
Kevin
Hi Kevin! Ophelie from Flippa here. You’re right that our classifieds section has been compared to Fiverr (notably in the comments of our announcement post here: http://flippa.com/blog/new-on-flippa-classifieds/), but as Bryan points out, they really aren’t very similar.
So far we’ve received a very good response to our Classifieds section, with the first 90 ads receiving a total of 25k views. One seller, Dan, tweeted about his huge ROI from a $5 classifieds ad: https://mobile.twitter.com/droplister/status/347942152107601921
I am not comparing them. As I noted “this has led many to suggest that they are trying to target the Fiverr crowd”.

Hi Kevin,
I’m not quite sure why some people are thinking Flippa are targetting the “Fiverr crowd” with their classified listings option (I’ve heard someone else suggesting the same before I read it on your blog).
Flippa’s classifieds and Fiverr are fundamentally completely different. Not only is the $5 a fee payable to Flippa (not the price of the service), the fee is paid by the seller, rather than the buyer, meaning that most buyers probably don’t even know or care how much it costs to place the listing.
It seems like you’re comparing apples to oranges here.
Cheers,
Bryan
